As of now, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion seems to make all the noise. And why not? It is the highest grossing Indian movie ever. Whose record did Baahubali 2: The Conclusion break to be the highest grosser? It is none other than Dangal. It was Aamir Khan’s last movie and was a mega blockbuster worldwide. It was released on the 23rd December 2016 worldwide. Dangal is the first Bollywood movie ever (or Indian movie for that matter) to be screened at the 7th Beijing International Film Festival. After its release, the film collected Rupees 29.8 crores on its opening day. The film was able to make 34.8 crores on the 2nd day. And on the third day, the collections went up to 42.4 crores thereby making the first week collections to Rs. 107 crores. It grossed a total of Rupees 372 crores in India.
Before Baahubali 2 reached its feat, Dangal was the highest grossing Indian movie. Last week, it was released in China, and it has been making waves there. The Chinese people have even given a pet name to Aamir Khan; they call him ‘Uncle Khan.’ The previous release of Aamir’s 3 Idiots and PK, were all a huge success in China. Dangal seems to have a super run in China. It grossed more than $100 million only there. It has thus become the highest grossing Indian movie in China. The movie has done a better business in the Chinese market than in India. And it is not over yet. The numbers are still coming.
What’s there in the movie, that it is doing so well there? The best answer would be that Dangal is just an amazing movie. The other factors could be the theme of the film and of course, the blockbuster maker Aamir Khan. Many film critics have tweeted that Dangal has officially become India’s first cross-over hit in the international arena after crossing $100 million overseas. All the websites which reviewed Dangal in China have given it a rating of 9 or more. The film is still running in Chinese theaters, and we could expect more from the audience. Dangal is making more money overseas and thanks to our neighbor China, it has been able to achieve this feat. Aamir was already in China before the release of the movie for its publicity, and it seems that the publicity really went well.
Dangal has also now become the second best grosser Indian movie ever, the first being S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The wrestling drama has collected over Rs. 400 crores in just two weeks in the Chinese soil. Dangal is a wrestling biopic which stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Sakshi Tanwar, Zaira Wasim, Girish Kulkarni and Aparshakti Khurrana. It is based on the lives of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his wrestler daughters Geeta and Babita. Nitesh Tiwari has directed the movie. Many awards were given to the movie including the Filmfare best actor award for Aamir Khan, Best Film and Best Director to Tiwari.
