Mukesh Ambani tops Forbes’ list of Global Game Changers

Forbes announced its list of top game changers across the globe. This category includes 25 ‘intrepid business leaders’ who are ‘unsatisfied with status quo’ and are transforming their industries and changing the lives of billions of people around the globe. According to Forbes staff member Lauren Gensler, the list includes the movers and shakers who are reshaping and transforming the way we travel, work, communicate and invest. India’s Mukesh Ambani topped the list by virtue of the mammoth success of Reliance Jio. The list features trailblazers like James Dyson, Judy Tong (Alibaba logistics) and Stewart Butterfield (creator of Slack).

Mukesh Ambani is among the richest populace of India and a dexterous entrepreneur. The 60 years old businessman garnered immense success through his conglomerate Reliance Industries. In April, Reliance Industries became the most valued stock on BSE. Ambani’s wealth has crossed $7 billion so far and with half a year left, there is more to be hoarded.

Ambani’s telecom venture Reliance Jio, which he launched around June 2016 has totally transfigured the telecom sector. Reliance Jio is now the most sought-after telecom company in India. Ambani introduced Jio in the Indian market with the aim of providing internet and voice call facilities at meagre costs. Jio sim cards were issued for free to all the subscribers along with unlimited internet, calls and messages till 31st March 2017. Subscribers were then asked to apply for prime membership at a nominal cost of Rs 99. From 1st April onwards, the company launched ‘Summer Surprise’ offer for the prime members whereby customers had to pay only Rs 303 to continue the unlimited calls and internet till 30th of June. Reliance Jio has brought a revolution in the telecom sector resulting in diminution of data charges. Initially, 1GB of super-fast data costs somewhere around Rs 300 but now people get 84 GB of data at the same cost. Jio was welcomed by everyone to such an extent that its subscriber base touched a whooping 10.9 crore at the end of FY17. Ambani surely deserves to be at the top of the list with his game changing efforts to bring internet to the people of his country. India has become the top data consuming country within few months, all thanks to Mr Ambani.

After receiving this huge acclamation, Ambani exclaimed “Anything and everything that can go digital is going digital. India cannot afford to be left behind.” His efforts have paid well and he is an epitome of game changer.
