The injured premier league

The Indian summer is here and it is time for some high-octane cricketing heat! The tenth season of the Indian Premier League is underway with the teams slowly getting into their grooves.

And, who doesn’t love the IPL? It has players from across the globe leaving their international rivalries aside and sporting the same jersey to try and get their hands on the much-coveted IPL trophy.

But this season, both the fans and teams would be missing quite a few familiar faces on the field. Sadly for the fans and the franchises, injuries have been the most trending hashtag of this IPL 2017. The jam-packed international cricketing calendar has made many players prone to injuries and a long-list of players has been ruled out of the entire tournament or a major part of it.

And, you know what. The IPL injury list has enough good players to make a classy team of its own! And what if they did? Here is the IPL 2017 Injury XI.

Quinten De Kock

The South African opener picked up tendon damage on his right index finger during the hard-fought New Zealand Test series. The injury needs good time to recoup and he is set to miss the complete tournament. Delhi Daredevils will miss the batting prowess of this explosive opener.

K L Rahul

The in-form Indian Test opener is paying the price for a wonderful home season he had. He needs a few surgeries to recover from his injury and will miss the whole of IPL 2017. He had a great season for Royal Challengers Bangalore last year.

Murali Vijay

The Kings XI Punjab player has ended the long international season needing surgeries on his right wrist and left shoulder. As a result, the aggressive opener will be sidelined for this entire IPL season.

Martin Guptill

Here is another big blow for Kings XI Punjab as this star batsman picked up a hamstring injury. He will be missing some important initial matches of the tournament.

Chris Lynn

Chris Lynn had a wonderful start to this IPL season. His explosive batting at the top gave a wonderful opening combination for Kolkata Knight Riders. But, the injury he sustained last match seems to be pretty serious and he will be sidelined for a good part of this tournament.

Mitchell Marsh

He bats, bowls and fields well! Losing Mitchell Marsh to an injury should be a triple blow to the Rising Pune Supergiants Team. They are sure to miss his wicket-taking spells and aggressive batting.

Angelo Mathews

The Delhi Daredevils allrounder will be missing the majority of IPL 2017. With a bad hamstring and a calf strain to boot, he has multiple injuries to nurse. With the Champions Trophy happening in June, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board will be reluctant to risk his fitness.

Dwayne Bravo

He is known for his crafty death bowling with the right mix of yorkers and slow balls. And add to that, the useful cameos with the bat. This is exactly what the Gujarat Lions will miss out on as Bravo is set to be sidelined for a good chunk of this IPL season.

Ravichandra Ashwin

Here is another martyr to the India’s grueling home season. The Rising Pune Supergiants will miss the services of this seasoned campaigner. His spin-bowling experience will be missed by the team for the entire tournament.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc has pulled out of the tournament to avoid aggravating the minor injury he sustained during the test series in India. His absence is a big blow to the chances of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Tim Southee

Tim Southee and Lasith Malinga with the new ball – this Mumbai Indians combination could have given most IPL openers a nightmare! But it doesn’t s look like happening anytime soon as Southee is still nursing a minor injury. He will miss the initial matches of the tournament.
