Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the renowned advocate of India Mr. Ram Jethmalani had an intense exchange of words at Delhi High Court on Wednesday. Mr. Ram Jethmalani has been accused of using the word ‘Crook’ while addressing Arun Jaitley which led to a heated duel. The verbal war took an ugly turn, and the court could only be carried for forty-five minutes of the day. According to the reports, during the fourth round of cross-examination by Mr. Jethmalani, 93, he intensely used the word ‘crook’ against Jaitley. This whole case is being tried at the Delhi High Court where Jaitley is being put to trial based on the accusation of Arvind Kejriwal’s defamation case. The proceedings on Wednesday ended abruptly when a verbal war broke out between the former close legal associates Jethmalani and Jaitley.
The very recording of Arun Jaitley’s statement on the civil defamation suit was filed worth rupees ten crores. It was registered against the Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal and the other functionaries of the political party. The trails could not be continued. Furthermore, the finance minister objected to Jethmalani’s use of the abusive word to his stature. Before this, Jaitley appeared in front of the Joint Registrar of the court, Deepali Sharma. In response to Jethmalani’s heated accuse, Jaitley asked the former whether the word used by him was instructed by Arvind Kejriwal or not. Jaitley also posed the threat of seeking higher damages against the stature of Arvind Kejriwal.
Arun Jaitley told the media that he will aggravate charges against the supreme head of the Aam Aadmi Party because there is always a limit to personal malice. It is being said that since the very inception of the trials, Jethmalani intentionally asked Jaitley some baseless and personal questions which were loosely relevant to this case. He, anyway, just like his word, wanted to prove Jaitley a crook of the economy of India.
As the Union Minister, Jaitley is managing two portfolios of the Indian Economy currently under him. They are the Defense and the Finance. He said that the senior counsel must clarify if he had said the word under the instruction of the AAP supremo. Advocate Arvind Kejriwal, Mr. Anupam Srivastava, since the beginning of the suit, submitted that the legal team of Kejriwal had no such instruction for the usage of the words.
On his response, Jethmalani said that in any suit for defamation, the examination of one’s character is mandatory and essential before coming to any conclusion. He had the intention to prove that the Union Minister Arun Jaitley has no logical reputation whatsoever. He also said that Jaitley does not even deserve a paisa from his suit against the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. Representatives of Jaitley, Mr. Sandeep Sethi, and Arun Nayar said that Jethmalani since the very beginning was asking Jaitley personal and scandalous questions which were irrelevant.
It is important to know that Arun Jaitley filed the suit against Arvind Kejriwal, Raghav Chadha, Sanjay Singh, Deepak Bajpai, Ashutosh and Kumar Bajpai for accusing Jaitley of financial irregularities in DDCA when Jaitley was the president from the years 2000 to 2013.
